The first book I've read of Colleen McCullough. I couldn't put it down! Written so long ago, about a time even longer ago, yet the issues are still so relevant today. I laughed, I cried, I felt the pain and anguish of Sister Langtry. I hoped for a happy ending, but instead cried some more. Great book by a new favorite author. Can't wait to read more McCullough!

Fantastic read. Couldn't put the book down. The author is very good at capturing one's imagination. Her very vivid and descriptive way of writing keeps you glued to the pages.
Another good book by Colleen Mccullough! A good psychological read. She is skilled in writing on a variety of topics and produces books that are enjoyable and educational. She is gifted in weaving complex characters in a way most people can identify with in some way or another.
A rather different type of story from Colleen McCullough but very powerful. The characters really come alive.
A complex and interesting story describing human interactions set in a mental disability ward within the background of war. The author's descriptions of emotional responses are intriguing and make for a compelling read.
I have rediscovered Colleen McCullough, am absolutely loving her writings. Have read most of her books in years gone by and had forgotten how much I loved them then. Recommend this one, its a good read.
I have enjoyed the books that I have read written by this author, they are always well written and informative, this this one I did not enjoy, and gave up about two thirds of the way through the book. I know it was a sad, hard time to live through, but found the constant description of the characters a lot to go through.
I loved this book! It is essentially the story of a doomed love affair set in the dying days of World War Two in a soon to be evacuated army hospital. It is a book filled with raw emotions and the pain of unrequited love - I am still thinking about the ending well over a month since I finished it. If you want a quick, easy light read, this is not for you. If you want to read a well-written love story with a difference, pick this book up.
